As Assistant Director, I assist with departmental management including personnel, programs and practices and administrative functions. I also develop and implement departmental policies and procedures, manage and monitor fiscal activities, including budget preparation, accounts management, monthly variance reporting and reconciliation.

Leslie Hernandez
Administrative Assistant – Sr.
As Senior Administrative Assistant, I am responsible for managing the front desk for the Office for Undergraduate Medical Education assisting all divisions under UME. I am responsible for greeting visitors, answering the main line, processing payments, requisitions, travel, and service requests.

Garrya Hatton Dunston, MSHE
Director for Accreditation, Compliance and Quality Improvement
As Director for Accreditation, Compliance, and Quality Improvement, I am responsible for the management of accreditation activities and special projects for the Long School of Medicine related to LCME/SACSCOC compliance and monitoring. I also develop and implement continuous quality improvement (CQI) strategies and direct a wide range of accreditation activities, including compliance monitoring, strategic planning and other projects as needed.

Belinda Gonzalez, MPA
Director, Admissions and Special Programs
I oversee the daily operations and budget of the Admissions & Outreach office including the following activities and events: interview season, second looks, welcome weekend, JAMP summer internship, and White Coat Ceremony. I serve as the primary LSOM contact with the Texas Medical and Dental Schools Application Service and monitor development of each entering class throughout the application cycle.

Vanessa Macias, MSOL
Manager, Academic Programs
Faculty liaison between LSOM faculty, Admissions Committee members and Office of Admissions and Outreach. I manage the applicant screening and final review process during the interview cycle. I am responsible for coordinating interview schedule and working with medical student ambassadors who support interview days. In partnership with the team, I also assist in leading various special events.

Sylvia Ramos
Administrative Assistant – Sr, Admissions
As Senior Administrative Assistant, I am responsible for payment processing, monthly budget reconciliations for multiple accounts, and catering coordination for the Office of Admissions & Outreach. I assist the Associate Dean of Admissions and provide travel coordination for all members of the team.

As a member of the Education Development team, I am responsible for providing ongoing consultation and support services with curriculum management and collaborating with faculty/content experts to establish engaging learning activities and compelling course/program content delivery that enhances knowledge retention and transfer.

As Director of Curriculum Management, I am responsible for the continuous quality improvement of the medical education curriculum through a set of structured activities designed to assess and adjust the curriculum based on several levels of review and evaluation.


Deborah Chang, Ph.D
Director of Curriculum Evaluation
As Director of Curriculum Evaluation, I oversee ongoing assessment, evaluation, and reporting efforts to ensure that all components of the educational cycle for medical students are meeting stated goals and learning outcomes, as well as to identify opportunities for program improvement and enhanced student success.

Candice Garza, MA
Instructional Designer – Sr.
As a member of the Educational Development team, I support, develop and continuously manage curriculum resources for teaching and training to include the design and development of learning environment resources. Collaboratively, with faculty and staff, implement educational technology in a blended learning environment and train faculty to use technology resources to support teaching.

Academic Program Coordinator
As a member of the Education Development Team, I provide in-classroom support for all first and second-year medical school student sessions, assist with audiovisual needs, presentation organization, student quizzes and Team-Based Learning (TBL) administration.

As Director for Educational development, I collaborate in the development, implementation, and growth of existing and new initiatives in curriculum design. Alongside with faculty continuously seek innovation opportunities and pathways in academic medicine. I also oversee the educational development team, who is dedicated to providing educational collaboration and excellence in medical education.

Kristin Hilty
Manager, Academic Programs
As Manager, Academic Programs in OUME, I provide oversight of day-to-day operations in the medical education program by facilitating and coordinating various academic activities in support of the Associate Dean for Curriculum. I manage all grades for the pre-clinical curriculum and maintain up to date student records.

As Program Coordinator, I oversee operations in the medical education program by facilitating and coordinating various academic activities in support of the Associate Dean for Curriculum. I manage and proctor student exams, maintain/update student records, assist in developing clerkship schedules and faculty/student evaluations, and serve as a resource to students, faculty and department coordinators.

As the Student Support Specialist with Academic Programs, I provide individual support and broader programing to assist first and second-year students in developing skills and practices necessary to succeed in the medical school. While collaborating with various units within the undergraduate medical program, the Mentors in Medicine (MiMs), Veritas, and Academic Enhancement, I am responsible for equipping students with the a variety of academic tools to succeed in the Long School of Medicine.

Stephanie Gutierrez, M.Ed
Manager, Dual-Degree Programs
As Manager of Dual-Degree Programs, I focus on the professional development of dual-degree students in our MD/MPH and other upcoming dual degree programs in process. I support students as they navigate both degrees and as they prepare for their future careers with dual interests through community building events and professional formation.

As Director of Wellness and Professional Formation, I am responsible for programs designed to develop and improve the self-care and resilience of medical students throughout their training and beyond. I guide students as they make meaning of their experiences, developing their identity as a physician.

As a Senior Program Coordinator for the Student Affairs Office, I monitor student progression, help coordinate Long School of Medicine events and assist with the Veritas mentorship program.

Joseph Pickering, EdD
Director, Academic Enhancement and Career Development
As the Director for Academic Enhancement and Career Development, my focus is to promote the academic success of our students via a multitude of services and activities. This includes supporting our students with academic skill development, assisting them as they prepare for residency via career development programs, and providing opportunities for them to build professional networks. My goal with our UME students is to provide holistic support to them as they navigate medical school and help them to become lifelong learners.
