Commencement

The Student Success Center aims to provide a smooth, enjoyable, Commencement Ceremony for you and your loved ones.

As you enter your final semester, you will need to begin preparing for your graduation. The UT San Antonio School of Nursing Commencement Ceremony is a celebration of your achievements, resilience and dedication to completing your degree requirements. There are two commencement ceremonies for nursing students.

Spring Commencement – The spring commencement ceremony is only for graduates of the School of Nursing. Spring graduates from the Traditional BSN program, Accelerated BSN (August completion), and spring/summer graduates from the doctoral and post-graduate certificate programs are invited to participate in this ceremony.

Fall Commencement – The fall commencement ceremony is only for graduates of the School of Nursing. Students graduating from the fall Traditional BSN programs and fall graduates from the doctoral and post-graduate certificate programs are invited to participate in this ceremony.

Important Details

Tickets: Tickets are not required to attend graduation.

Guests: Please bring as many guests as you would like to share this memorable event! A reception will not be held after the ceremony.

Regalia: Regalia can be purchased through the Herff Jones website. If you have any questions about ordering, please contact the Student Success Center at SONStudentSuccess@uthscsa.edu.

Attire: Professional/business attire is expected. Athletic shoes, white or bright-colored socks, jeans, and/or shirts will not be allowed. Also, remember to bring bobby pins to secure your cap.

Graduation Caps: Please remember to keep your graduation caps professional and appropriate. The School of Nursing asks that students refrain from placing "RN" on their caps, unless they have passed the NCLEX exam.

Photos: Individual photos of each graduate receiving a diploma will be taken at the ceremony. Once the images have been taken and posted online, UT San Antonio will contact you with details to view and purchase photos.

Diploma: Please note you will NOT receive your diploma at graduation. You may pick up your diploma at the Registrar's Office (located in the Medical School) once you have completed all of your requirements. If you do not pick up your diploma, the Registrar's Office will begin mailing diplomas as soon as they can.

Honors: Honors designations and clinical distinctions are announced at graduation, if all requirements have been completed. The GPA requirements for undergraduate Latin honors and high honors for graduate students are below. 

Undergraduate Students

  • Cum Laude GPA: 3.5-3.69  
  • Magna Cum Laude GPA: 3.7 - 3.89
  • Summa Cum Laude GPA: 3.90 - 4.0

Graduate Students

  • High Honors GPA: 4.0
