Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery concentrates on the diagnosis and surgical management of oral and maxillofacial conditions, including disorders of soft and hard tissues. Maxillofacial refers to the region of the facial skeleton and includes the bones of the forehead, cheekbone, face and includes the jaws and regional soft tissues.
Our faculty are highly qualified recognized experts in their field. We are collaborators working within interdisciplinary teams and developing research connections. We believe in the importance of research as well as day-to-day practice.
Our basic research studies are focused on the mechanisms by which peripheral neurons that sense painful stimuli become sensitized in response to tissue inflammation and/or injury. The long-term goal is to support the evolution of clinical treatment paradigms for patients experiencing pain. Our clinical research focuses on the best methods of treating maxillofacial problems.
