The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency warning following reports of 22 individuals across 11 states experiencing adverse effects from botulin toxin injections. The affected individuals, all women aged 25 to 29, received injections in non-healthcare settings such as homes or spas, administered by unlicensed and untrained individuals. Anton Fries, MD, from UT Health San Antonio emphasized the importance of adhering to federal and state regulations for clinicians conducting cosmetic procedures. He warned against cutting corners, emphasizing that if the price seems too good to be true, it likely is, highlighting the risks associated with counterfeit or mishandled products.
