Dear UT Health San Antonio Community,
As we anticipate inclement weather conditions on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, including below-freezing temperatures and potential precipitation, our top priority is the safety and well-being of our patients, students, employees and visitors. Below is important information regarding health science center campus operations and guidance for the day:
Health System Operations/Patient Care Services
• UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty and Research Hospital: Operating under normal conditions
• UT Health Physicians and Outpatient Locations: Patient care services begin at 12pm
• Mays Cancer Center: Patient care services begin at 12pm
• UT Dentistry: Patient care services begin at 12pm
• Existing telehealth appointments will continue as scheduled and 24/7/365 access to electronic medical records is available through MyChart. Starting the afternoon of Jan. 20, staff will work with providers to reschedule Tuesday (1/21) visits or convert to video visits where possible. On Tuesday (1/21) morning, staff will be available remotely to answer phone calls and MyChart messages.
Academic Operations
• Classes: All schools will transition to web-based instruction (e.g., Teams or Zoom) at the discretion of the department chair or program director.
• Student Clinical Activities: Follow the guidelines of your assigned clinical site.
Research Operations
• Central research services (e.g. DLAR, OSP) are mission critical and will be operational. Research laboratories will be open and accessible via normal badge access. Facilities and emergency staff will be onsite to support necessary labs and related activities to avoid any disruption in research activities.
• Individual investigators and non-institutional research offices operate according to the institutional handbook of policies and procedures for research and other sponsored activity. IHOP link.
Administrative Operations
• Administrative operations will function remotely. Please check with your supervisor if you have any questions.
• Food operations, the cashier windows, and non-critical deliveries are suspended and willresume on Wednesday. Food service is available in the Multispecialty and Research Hospital.
Other Operational Changes
- Campus shuttle services will begin at 11:30am
General Guidance and Safety Measures
1. Travel Safety: Please allow extra time for your commute and exercise caution, especially on potentially wet or icy roadways. If you are considered essential personnel and cannot get to work, please contact your supervisor immediately.
2. Inclement Weather Policy: Review the Inclement Weather Policy (8.3.1) in the Institutional Handbook of Operating Policies (IHOP) to ensure compliance with institutional guidelines.
3. Remote Work Options:
If you work remotely or plan to do so, confirm arrangements with your supervisor.
For those unable to travel safely, discuss options with your supervisor, including the use of available paid time off balances.
4. Facilities and Grounds:
Facilities Management and Campus Police are actively working to maintain the safety of campus grounds and facilities.
Report any maintenance concerns, such as leaks or safety issues, to Facilities Management at (210) 567-2946.

Given the criticality of the services we offer, the health science center campus is open, operational and safe. This weather event will continually be assessed over the next two days and if necessary, operational updates will be made accordingly.
