Aphasia is a common communication disorder that affects about 2 million people in the United States. Aphasia can happen suddenly, such as after stroke or brain injury, or develop slowly over time, such as with primary progressive aphasia.

- Connecting people living with aphasia and their caregivers in San Antonio through a support group, community events, and a summer program;
- Providing community-based assessment and treatment services to help improve communication and quality of life during the summer program;
- Improving healthcare experiences by reducing communication barriers and offering research‑based training for healthcare providers; and
- Helping people with aphasia take part in the San Antonio community by partnering with local non‑profit organizations that welcome SANA volunteers.
