Orientation and Training Schedules
There are many tasks to be completed between now and July 1, 2014. Below are items we would like to call to your attention:
Onboarding will open on or before April 1, 2014, and should be completed by June 1, 2014. Onboarding consists of several checklists for UTHSCSA GME, UHS, and VA. Please read instructions for each checklist carefully as deadlines may vary.
All onboarding documents will be available on the New Innovations (Ni) website. Your program coordinator will provide you with the link and access information prior to April 1, 2014.
Completion of online in-processing will enable you to obtain an UTHSCSA ID badge (there is a refundable $10 fee) from UT Police prior to the start of your training. Your program coordinator may assist you in obtaining this badge.
Orientation - In Person
Orientation will be held on June 19, 2014, in the Holly Auditorium located on the UTHSCSA campus.
In-processing will take place on June 20, 2014. Schedule of in-processing will be communicated to you by your program coordinator. During this time you will sign your GME Agreement (Resident Contract).
Please bring the following items:
(a) Vehicle registration or title, and proof of auto insurance to receive a parking hang tag and gate access card.
(b) A voided check from your financial institution if direct deposit is desired.
(c) Original employment eligibility documents
Resident Permit - The Physician-in-Training (PIT) Resident Permit application for the Texas Medical Board (TMB) is available online. You may access the application at http://www.tmb.state.tx.us/page/pit-application. The TMB will accept online applications only. Your program coordinator will provide you with your TMB Personal ID# for the online application process. Although there is not a save feature for the online application, you may print each screen as you answer the questions. The deadline to apply is April 1, 2014. You must have at least a temporary permit by July 1, 2014 in order to begin your residency training.
Health Screening - All residents must complete the UHS Employee Health Screening. The UHS Employee Health Clinic (3rd floor) is open Monday - Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
It is imperative that you complete the health screening prior to June 18, 2014. Failure to complete the required health screening will jeopardize the start of your training on July 1st.
If you will be receiving a PPD at the clinic, the PPD must be performed on any weekday other than Thursdays in order to allow for a reading within 48-72 hours. Readings must be done at the UHS Employee Health Clinic.
If you choose to have your PPD performed elsewhere, the document provided to the UHS clinic must indicate the date performed, date read, and the results.
There are several options for scheduling your health screening:
(1) Prior to June 1, 2014, an appointment is required and can be made by calling (210) 358-2277.
(2) Between June 1 and June 30, 2014, no appointment is necessary, but residents are encouraged to make one to avoid waiting. If no appointment is made, residents will be seen on a first come, first serve basis.
Life Support Training - All programs require at least BLS certification. Your program may require additional certifications as well (ACLS, ATLS, PALS, etc.). Requirements are different for each residency training program. If you will be going to the VA, your certifications must contain the American Heart Association emblem.
(a) If you have recently obtained the certifications required by your program, please upload a copy of both sides of your card to the onboarding online module.
(b) If you need to schedule a course, please contact your program coordinator to register you for the BLS and/or ACLS classes (schedule below). Upon completion of the course(s), please upload a copy of both sides of your card to the onboarding online module.
BLS course will be offered by UHS on Monday, June 16, 2014 at Highpoint Tower. There is a morning and afternoon session.
ACLS courses will also be offered by UHS on June 24th and 25that Highpoint Tower from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
