Regenerative Endodontics
Pulp regeneration is used to restore diseased or damaged dental pulp and to assist in healing. This should encourage dentin repair with the use of tooth regeneration scaffolding, a biodegradable substance that will encourage the tooth to repair itself. The scaffolding could be collagen, fibrin, or man-made polymers. If the procedure is successful, it can remove the need for a root canal.
What to expect
Your endodontist will use stem cells derived from your own pulp or bone marrow combined with nanofiber-based material that will create the scaffolding upon which the tooth can regenerate. This is different from a root canal, which replaces the pulp with a filler.
The endodontist will mix existing pulp with the nanofiber material. This is reinserted into your tooth. It will create a platform within your tooth that allows the controlled delivery of antibiotics. This eliminates infection and allows controlled release of growth factors to stimulate pulp regeneration.
After the procedure
Several follow-up visits with your endodontist will be needed to monitor the tooth for recovery and possible infection.
