There are a wide variety of infections that can develop within the oral cavity that can spread if left untreated. This could lead to pain, swelling, bleeding, destruction of bone, and if left untreated can lead to hospitalization or death.
Sources of infection include:
- Viral and fungal infections, such as thrush
- Caries or cavities from tooth decay
- Abscessed teeth
- Bone infections
- Periodontal (gum) disease
- Salivary gland infections
Once diagnosed, your oral health team can assist you in the management of the infection. Do not ignore infections.
