Specialists at UT Health San Antonio offer revision bariatric surgery for qualified patients.
As weight-loss surgery continues to evolve and improve, we now know that some of the procedures done in the past have not been effective in the long-term. The vertical banded gastroplasty (VBG) is one example. A revision operation can be beneficial if you have persistent complications from your surgery or if you have not reached your weight loss goal.
Revision operations often convert to one that is better suited for the patient. While revision surgery may not achieve the same result as one that was done initially, it may still result in a remarkable improvement for the patient. Even if your original surgery was done with a large incision, revision procedures can usually be done laparoscopically (with small incisions). In some cases, the procedure must be done with a large incision in order to complete the operation safely.
Revision operations can carry a higher risk than first-time operations. Our team of experienced surgeons will help you determine if the benefits of the surgery outweigh the risks of a revision operation.
