UT Health Opthalmology provides complete diabetic eye exams and comprehensive treatment options to keep your eyes healthy.
Diabetes can harm your eyes and even cause blindness. It damages the small blood vessels in your retina or the back of your eyes. Early detection and treatment of diabetic retinopathy can reduce the risk of blindness. We recommend that patients with diabetes get a comprehensive dilated eye exam at least once a year. If patients already have diabetic retinopathy they may need to have a diabetic eye exam more frequently. Diabetic eye disease includes diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular edema (DME), cataract, and glaucoma.
