UT Health San Antonio kicks-off its second season as the Official Health Care Partner for UTSA Athletics

With the start of the football season, UT Health San Antonio continues its exclusive official health care partnership with UTSA Athletics including football, basketball, baseball, volleyball and soccer programs.  We have the unique privilege of serving the health care needs of the more than 300 UTSA student-athletes by offering access to UT Health’s expert providers and vast services – ensuring student athletes’ medical needs are met, and that they are prepared to succeed both on and off the field.

Orthopaedic and sports medicine providers from UT Health Physicians serve as the Roadrunner’s on-the-field medical team with access to the more than 800 other specialists within UT Health San Antonio. Fellowship-trained primary care sports medicine physician, Ken Kenneth-Nwosa, MD, serves as the Roadrunner’s team physician and partners with orthopaedic surgeon, Katherine Bartush, MD, for “on and off the field” care of the athletes. The complete medical team serving UTSA Athletics includes, Thomas DeBerardino, MD; Phil Jacobs, MD, Caitlyn Mooney, MD; and Ian Whitney, MD.  Together, this powerhouse team focuses on preventing common injuries, recognizing and treating concussions, understanding the role that proper stretching, hydration and nutrition play in keeping student athletes healthy, and determining when a student has fully recovered and is safe to return to play.
