Stephanie Johnson honored with 2023-2024 Non-Clinical Gold Shield Award for Epic Care Team excellence

Stephanie Johnson, a key member of the Epic Care Team at UT Health San Antonio, has been awarded the 2023-2024 Non-Clinical Gold Shield Award for her exceptional contributions to patient safety. Johnson's ability to retain information with an unparalleled level of detail has significantly impacted patient safety and outcomes. Her knowledge and expertise have made her an invaluable asset in streamlining the process of creating, reviewing and finalizing treatment plans.

One of Johnson's standout achievements is her role in developing comprehensive order sets for Mays Cancer Center, home to the UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center. By identifying and addressing key safety concerns for various treatments, she has helped enhance patient experience at every step. Her work has ensured that new and updated treatment plans are implemented efficiently, prioritizing the well-being of patients.

Johnson's innovative approach to maintaining the treatment plan library is another example of her outstanding work. By creating treatment groups, she can make single changes that update numerous plans simultaneously. This method improved patient safety and generated significant cost savings. For instance, when literature showed that lower doses of anti-nausea medication reduced side effects, Johnson swiftly updated all treatment plans to reflect this, ensuring better patient outcomes.

Her quick response in addressing potential safety risks, such as identifying errors in how Epic was interpreting home medications, further demonstrates her dedication. Consistently approachable and committed, Johnson embodies the values of UT Health San Antonio, earning her the prestigious Gold Shield award .
