Apert syndrome: Mother raising awareness of rare genetic order

Full story from KENS5

KENS5 Morning Anchor Sarah Forgany speaks to Flor Ramirez to share her story and spread awareness about Flor's baby girl, Mirlee Janice Ramirez's, rare genetic disorder, Apert Syndrome.

Apert syndrome causes early fusion of the skull, and hand, feet bones, requiring surgeries early-on in infant's lives. UT Health San Antonio neurosurgeons, Izabela Tarasiewicz, MD and Mark Miller, MD lead our Cleft and Craniofacial team. They performed Mirlee’s head surgeries at just 2 months old in order for her brain to have adequate room to grow. This team of precision neurosurgeons help babies sent to them from around the world, and continue to follow-up with them into adulthood.
