Founded a religious order devoted to healing the sick called the Brothers Hospitallars; patron saint of nurses and hospitals; pioneered special nursing units to help wounded soldiers that included training all nurs

Christman, Luther
Became the first male Dean of a US School of Nursing when he accepted the position at Vanderbilt University in 1967; helped establish the National Male Nurse Association in 1974 (in 1981, it became the American Assembly for Men in Nursing)
