UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry wins Academy of General Dentistry 2024 Student Chapter of the Year Award

 

We are proud to announce that the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) student chapter at UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry has been honored with the 2024 Student Chapter of the Year Award. This recognition is a testament to our student chapter's exceptional efforts and achievements throughout the 2023-2024 academic year.


Sohini Dhar, DDS, elected to the Board of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry as Director-at-Large

 

The School of Dentistry is proud to announce that Sohini Dhar, DDS, MPH, FICD, assistant professor of comprehensive dentistry, has been elected to serve as the Director-at-Large on the Board of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry (AAPHD) from 2024 to 2027.

Dhar has been an active member of AAPHD for several years, previously serving as a council member and chair for AAPHD’s Council on Educational Affairs. 


Three Comprehensive Dentistry icons retire after a collective 66 years of service and achievements

 

The School of Dentistry celebrated three Department of Comprehensive Dentistry faculty icons in June upon their retirement for their collective 66 years of dedication, service, leadership and instruction. Their influence on the many dental students they have taught has made a lasting impact on the profession and all of the patients their students have gone on to care for.

School of Dentistry to launch new Center for Regenerative Sciences

The UT Health Science Center San Antonio School of Dentistry will launch a Center for Regenerative Sciences in the fall of 2024. The research initiative will expand the school’s existing work in regenerative endodontics, dental and craniofacial development and stem cells.


2024 Predoctoral Convocation Awards

 

The School of Dentistry celebrated the accomplishments of its predoctoral dental students during the 2024 Predoctoral Convocation Awards at the end of April.

Stefanie Seitz, DDS, MEd, assistant dean for students and associate clinical professor in the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry, emceed the event, which recognized 27 individuals and presented over $31,000 in scholarship and award winnings.


2024 School of Dentistry Senior Awards Ceremony

 

On Friday, May 17, 2024, the School of Dentistry held its annual Senior Awards Ceremony for Doctor of Dental Surgery graduates. This year’s ceremony included breakfast at the event center in the La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham located in the Medical Center.


Dental student wins first place at IADR

 

We are thrilled to announce that Josue De Jesus Murillo, a DDS/PhD student at the School of Dentistry, received first place in the neuroscience poster competition at the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) conference. The IADR is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing dental, oral and craniofacial research worldwide.


Dental student recognized as a 2024 Presidential Ambassador Scholar

 

UT Health San Antonio’s 2024 Presidential Ambassador Scholars were officially recognized by Acting President Robert Hromas, MD, FACP, last month.

Hromas, with assistance from the deans and associate deans from the schools, presented each student with their medals and recognized their achievements, with each ambassador awarded a $5,000 scholarship. The ambassadors will represent the student body and the university at multiple events throughout the year.


School of Dentistry 2024 graduates

 

On Saturday, May 18, 1,098 graduates from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio participated in the combined spring and summer commencement ceremony at the Alamodome.

The School of Dentistry awarded degrees or certificates to 172 graduates, including 107 Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees and 19 Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene degrees.

The School of Dentistry celebrated its 42nd Annual Research and Clinical Symposium this February in the Holly Auditorium and Foyer. DDS admissions team thanks faculty and student volunteers for a successful admissions season


The School of Dentistry is finalizing its Doctor of Dental Surgery Class of 2028 as a result of the dedication and hard work by the staff, faculty and dental students who helped organize, review and interview this year’s applicants.

A committee of faculty members makes up the school’s Admission Review Panel (ARP) Committee. This year, these members reviewed 1,131 applications in order to select the most qualified candidates for interviews.
