Benjamin J. Gantt, DMD, joins Department of Predoctoral Dental Education as vice chair

Benjamin J. Gantt, DMD, MS, FAGD, ABGD, joined The University of Texas at San Antonio (UT San Antonio) School of Dentistry as vice chair of the Department of Predoctoral Dental Education on July 27.

Gantt brings extensive clinical, academic and leadership experience to the role. He most recently served as commander of the 559th Medical Group at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland and as an assistant professor with the Uniformed Services University Postgraduate Dental College. During his U.S. Air Force career, he also held senior leadership roles as deputy commander of the 59th Dental Group and associate director of the Air Force Dental Corps.

A diplomate of the American Board of General Dentistry and a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, Gantt has received several military and professional honors and was named U.S. Air Force Clinical Dentist of the Year in 2016.

He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of South Carolina College of Dental Medicine and a Master of Science in oral biology from the Uniformed Services University. He completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency with the 96th Dental Squadron at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, and a second-year AEGD certificate program at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
