Call for nominations: 2021 School of Dentistry Faculty Research & Master Clinician Awards
The School of Dentistry is currently accepting nominations for the 2021 Faculty Research and Master Clinician Awards to recognize outstanding faculty performance in both categories. The Faculty Research Award is aimed at acknowledging the outstanding, lifetime scientific achievements made by a dental faculty member, while the Master Clinician Award will honor a full-time dental faculty member who provides direct patient care activities.

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students:
I would like to extend a very warm greeting to our campus community and welcome you to the 2020-2021 academic year at the UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry! Although we begin the term operating in an untraditional fashion, we continue to work together to educate the next generation of outstanding oral health professionals, treat the communities that need us most, and advance science to prevent and manage oral diseases and their sequalae.
Dean's Office and IIMS award seed funding to 4 projects
Four research groups received a notice of award from The School of Dentistry regarding their successful application submissions for seed funding. Over the next year, the researchers will use the funding to jumpstart projects that will generate pilot data for preparation of larger grant submissions, such as R01s and Department of Defense funding. The seed funding comes from the Office of the Dental Dean and the Institute for Integration of Medicine and Science’s Clinical and Translational Science Award.
School of Dentistry research enterprise ranks among top 10 of U.S. dental schools
The UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry’s research enterprise has been ranked seventh among all U.S. dental schools for National Institutes of Health funding for 2019, jumping 11 spots over previous years. Read the full story on Newsroom.
2020 Commencement Ceremony
The UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry conducted its 2020 Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, May 28th through a virtual platform in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ceremony was broadcast live from the Holly Auditorium where administrative leadership, supportive faculty and staff safely gathered to cheer on the Class of 2020. Alumna featured for participation in national HPV study
Risé Martin, D.D.S., class of 1985, was featured on KSAT 12 News for her involvement in a human papillomavirus (HPV) study headed by the National Dental Practice-Based Research Network (PBRN). David L. Cochran, D.D.S., Ph.D., professor and chair of the department of periodontics, is the PBRN's director of the southwest region. The San Antonio Chapter of the American Association for Dental Research invited Julie T. Marchesan, D.D.S., Ph.D., as guest speaker for their 2019 Fall Dinner Lecture held on October 16, 2019. Dr. Marchesan is assistant professor at the Adams School of Dentistry’s Department of Periodontology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. With an extensive training in oral health sciences, Dr. Marchesan’s research focus is primarily on the role of innate immune receptors in the pathogenesis of periodontal disease.
