The UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry is proud to recognize third-year dental student Hamsi Nathan as the 2025 Presidential Ambassador Scholar representing the school. Nathan was officially recognized by Francisco G. Cigarroa, MD, senior executive vice president for health affairs and health system, during an awards ceremony held April 15 in the Academic and Administration Building. During the event, each of UT Health San Antonio’s six schools honored one outstanding student with this prestigious distinction.

The Presidential Ambassador Scholar Award, established in 1988, honors exemplary students selected by their deans for academic excellence, leadership and commitment to service. Each scholar receives a $5,000 scholarship and represents their school and UT Health San Antonio at institutional and community events throughout the year.

Born and raised in Austin, Nathan brings a unique blend of scientific curiosity, leadership and compassion to her journey in dentistry. Her passion for oral health began at an early age when she underwent multiple orthodontic and oral surgery procedures to correct an underbite. Those transformative experiences sparked a desire to one day provide similar care to others, especially children facing complex dental conditions.

Now in her third year, Nathan has distinguished herself as a leader in the School of Dentistry. She currently serves as vice president of the Class of 2026, where she actively advocates for her peers and helps strengthen the sense of community within her cohort. In addition to her leadership, she is engaged in innovative research examining the intersection of artificial intelligence and dental care, with a particular interest in improving outcomes for diabetic patients.

After graduation, Nathan plans to pursue specialty training in oral surgery to improve access to surgical care for pediatric patients and populations who need care. Outside the clinic and classroom, she enjoys solving puzzles, crocheting, crafting recipes and relaxing outdoors with her dog. She also loves game nights with her fiancé and friends.

Nathan’s recognition as a Presidential Ambassador Scholar is a testament to her dedication, talent and future impact in the dental profession. The School of Dentistry congratulates her on this well-deserved honor and looks forward to her continued contributions to the UT Health San Antonio community and beyond.
