About Me

My name is Dene, and I'm starting my fifth year in the program (GS3). I'm from Oklahoma and went to undergrad at UT Dallas. I love spending time outdoors and being active. My newest hobby since joining the program is fostering very young, "bottle baby", kittens and puppies until they're old enough to be adopted!

Gardening, tennis, reading, and watching cool new movies

Research Topic

Stroke recovery, neuroplasticity, neurorepair

Why I chose MD/PhD

My ultimate goal is to be a physician-scientist at an academic medical center, where I hope to integrate basic sciences research and clinical practice in my own laboratory. I chose an MD/Ph.D. to receive specialized training, mentorship, and dedicated time to help me achieve this goal.

Why I chose MD/PhD at UT Health San Antonio

The MD/Ph.D. program at UT Health San Antonio immediately stood out to me for its commitment to diversity, scientific excellence, and mentorship.
