Carlo Vanz, M.B.A.

Carlo Vanz is a graduate student in Molecular Immunology & Microbiology at UT Health San Antonio with a focus on immunometabolism. Alongside his research work, he is part of EnventureSA to help connect students with scientists and entrepreneurs in the biomedical and biotech fields. Prior to his graduate studies, Carlo moved from Italy to the United States where he got his B.S. in Biology and MBA in Financial Management from Lamar University.

Carlo’s research focuses on the field of immunometabolism to study how immune cells affect the body’s metabolic state and vice versa. In the past couple of decades, the public interest in this field of research has increased due to the significant global increase of metabolic and immune diseases. Carlo’s project utilizes a mouse model of obesity to characterize the roles and effects of immune populations such as B lymphocytes and iNKT cells in the adipose tissue and other affected organs.
