Clinical Trials Office

Supports research teams with clinical trial management, budgets and Medicare billing compliance.  Also assists investigators develop clinical trials plans. Administers the participant payment program and the clinical trial portal for placing industry-sponsored studies.

The Clinical Trials Office (CTO) serves as a central resource for study management to researchers involved in human subjects research. If your study meets the definition of a clinical trial, CTO approval will be the first step in your study approval process. The CTO provides the following services to researchers:

• Assistance with refinement of your protocol and your study objectives
• Site feasibility assessment
• Budget development & budget negotiation with commercial sponsors
• Pricing for clinical services performed for research purposes at our affiliate sites
• Coordinating agreements & contracts
• Creation of your coverage analysis (a document that outlines what clinical procedures may be paid by Medicare or health insurance, and what procedures must be paid by the study)
• Assessment of billing risk (risk that research procedures may inadvertently be billed to insurance or participants)
• Creation of research accounts in Epic (electronic medical record)
• Velos eResearch clinical trial management system – study setup and administration
• Training for and approval of plans to manage payments to research participants
• ClinCard (re-loadable Health Science Center debit cards, the preferred method for paying study participants)
• Research guidance for financial management
