Burgin serves as director of clinical education for the Master of Physician Assistant Studies program, has served on numerous committees at the department, school and institutional level, and in 2024 was elected a house delegate for both the Texas Academy of Physician Assistants and the American Academy of Physician Associates. Her research interests include rural and underserved healthcare delivery and clinical placements, as well as preventing medical issues through a healthy diet.

“To get the Spectrum Award was just incredible to me,” Burgin said. “I took it home that day and showed it around to my family. I am pleasantly surprised.”

Burgin’s efforts more than qualify her for the recognition, said Department of Physician Assistant Studies Chair Paul B. Allen, Sr., DSc, MPAS, PA-C, FAAPA.

“Dr. Burgin exemplifies the Spectrum Award through her extraordinary commitment to teaching, scholarship and service,” Allen said. “She is an innovative educator, a nationally engaged scholar and leader, and a tireless advocate for our students, profession and community. Her impact extends far beyond the classroom, reflecting the very best of the School of Health Professions’ mission.”
