The University of Texas Health Science Center hosted the Texas Association of Advisors for the Health Professions (TAAHP) annual meeting on February 3-6, 2016. During the conference, Health Science Center faculty and students provided updates and insights into academic programs. Advisors also toured the campus, labs and classrooms.

During the conference, physician assistant (PA) students participated in a student panel with fellow Health Science Center students. The panel answered questions from meeting attendees and gave their perspective on the student experience at the Health Science Center. The PA students that participated were Alexandra Anzaldua, Devon Durand, Blair McElroy, Beau Muhlbach, Daisy Perez, Kaylin Sallee and Shelby Snyder.

Faculty and staff representing the School of Health Professions at the TAAHP conference were Barbara Quillin, MPAS, PA-C, physician assistant studies program director, Karin Barnes, Ph.D., OTR, occupational therapy department chair, Richard Wettstein, RRT, associate professor of respiratory care, Cheryl Burns, M.S., MLS (ASCP), associate professor of clinical laboratory sciences and Jessica Priddy, M.Ed., director of admissions and special programs.

TAAHP is an organization that connects health professions advisors from across Texas with each other and to professional schools. The annual meeting provides advisors with the opportunity to learn from each other and to improve the training of undergraduates interested in attending health professions, medical, nursing or dental school.
