Master of Science in Imaging Sciences students win awards at state conference
Students in the Master of Science in Imaging Sciences (MSIS) Class of 2027 participated in the Texas Society of Radiologic Technologists (TxSRT) Annual Meeting and Educational Symposium held in Austin in April.
TxSRT is the professional organization for medical imaging professionals, radiation therapists and imaging advocates across Texas.
Two groups of students competed in the Scientific Display Contest, a poster competition that received 70 submissions, the highest number in the organization’s history. Group members Vylaina Garcia, Sara Ibarra, Adrianna Jennings, and Linh Lu won third place for their poster, “Minimizing Ionizing Radiation Imaging in Pediatric Patients.” Also competing were Giles Andrews, Gavin McCormick, Angel Garcia and Francisco Vargas with the poster, “External Artifact Mimicry and Obscuration in Portable Chest Radiography: A Retrospective Observational Study in a Level 1 Trauma Center.”
MSIS student Grace Corbin was selected to receive one of five $500 scholarships from the TxSRT Board of Directors. The annual scholarships to student members of TxSRT recognize academic commitment and engagement in the profession. Corbin and fellow student Mia Zamora won first place for their T-shirt design in the RAD Tees T-shirt contest.
“These accomplishments highlight the dedication, talent and leadership emerging within the MSIS Class of 2027,” said MSIS Associate Program Director Vanessa Flores, MEd, RT(R) (ARRT). “Their achievements reflect not only individual excellence but also the program’s commitment to advancing the future of imaging sciences in Texas.”
