Communication Sciences and Disorders professor named journal junior editor

Assistant Professor Rocío Norman, PhD, CCC-SLP of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders has recently been selected as a junior editor for the Journal of Clinical and Translational Science.

Although Dr. Norman has served as a reviewer for several peer-reviewed medical journals, this is her first role as an editor. Her experience as both a clinician and a researcher have prepared her well for the opportunity, she said.

“I can approach both sides of research in terms of being able to not only review it for the scientific merit but also think about how it would translate and how that research would be implemented by clinical providers or disseminated to populations that would benefit,” she said.

Dr. Norman’s research focuses on improving the lives of adults with concussion or mild traumatic brain injury.

“I came into research because I wanted to improve my profession, and I wanted to give the speech-language pathologists who are on the front lines of health care the tools they need,” she said.

Department of Medicine Professor Joel Tsevat, MD, MPH, director of the ReACH Center and CTSA KL2 program, nominated Dr. Norman for the position, noting that she is an “avid author and reviewer of clinical and translational research papers.” Dr. Norman is a KL2 scholar.

The Journal of Clinical and Translational Science is the official journal of the Association for Clinical and Translational Science.
