This year’s annual Allied Health Games activities lineup included something different: an official Fiesta event.

The opportunity to participate in the Chromosome 18 Starfish Dash 5K during the games on April 27 made the annual competition among teams of School of Health Professions students particularly exciting because it also helped raise awareness of chromosome 18 abnormalities, said organizer and second-year MOT student Tori Villarreal.

“It was cool to collaborate and bring the (student and chromosome 18) populations together in a fun setting and a setting to raise awareness,” she said.

Open to students in the School of Health Professions, the Allied Health Games feature a variety of competitions, including a sand volleyball tournament, relay race and tug-of-war. The participating teams chose themes, including U.S.A, Fiesta and Rosie the Riveter, Villarreal said.
“It was a fun day all around,” she said, noting the welcome break from studying for final exams the following week.

Ninety-three participants competed.

The 10 participating teams were: The Resuscitators (PA); Swolliosis (PT 1); Code Blue (PA); Ballerpeños (MOT); Pound Town (PT 2); Pain Train (PT 3); Rangers of Motion (OTD); Leave ‘Em Speechless (SLP); Mighty-Chondria (MLS) and Lil’ Weezers (Respiratory).

The Resuscitators took first place; Leave ‘Em Speechless finished in second place and Pound Town came in third place.
