Brad Tragord

Bradley Tragord PT, DPT, DSc

Chair and Program Director 

Bradley S. Tragord was appointed Associate Professor at the Department of Physical Therapy at the School of Health Professions, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio) in August 2021. He was appointed Chair and Program Director in June 2024. Dr. Tragord teaches multiple courses including Musculoskeletal Dysfunction I (PHYT 8002) and II (PHYT 8114). Before coming to UT Health San Antonio, Dr Tragord completed over 22 years of clinical care, teaching, and research as an active-duty Army physical therapist and healthcare executive.

 

Gustavo Almeida

Gustavo J Almeida, Ph.D.

Associate Professor 

Dr. Almeida received his PT degree and training in Brazil and has over 18 years of clinical experience focusing on Sports and Orthopedics Rehabilitation. He obtained his PhD in Rehabilitation Science from the University of Pittsburgh and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at UT Health San Antonio. His research focuses on interventions to improve physical function and activity in individuals with arthritis. More specifically, Dr. Almeida is currently testing the feasibility of using blood-flow restriction during prehabilitation in individuals awaiting total knee replacement.

Julie B Barnett PT, DPT, MTC

Assistant Professor 

Clinical and academic focus on non-surgical focus for orthopedic dysfunctions.  Clinical doctorate research focused on orthopedic gait dysfunctions in recreational runners.

Bobby Belarmino, PT, DPT, PhD, CCS

Assistant Professor

Dr. Bobby Belarmino received his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy at Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation in the Philippines, and his Master’s degree in Applied Physiology at Columbia University in New York. He then completed his Doctor of Physical Therapy at MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston, Massachusetts, and then completed his PhD in Physical Therapy at Texas Woman’s University in Houston, Texas.  He is a Cardiopulmonary Clinical Specialist (CCS), certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialty.

Michael Geelhoed, D.P.T., OCS, MTC

Director of Clinical Education 

Dr. Mike Geelhoed is a member of the inaugural Master of Physical Therapy graduating class of UT Health San Antonio in 1998. Currently, he teaches Professional Issues I and II and Movement Science I to the first-year students, and Professional Issues III and assists with Musculoskeletal I and Musculoskeletal II to the second-year students. He assumed the role of Director of Clinical Education in January 2007, and is now responsible for all aspects of the student's clinical education, including the third-year students' four clinical rotations and related coursework.

Jeffrey Kallberg, DPT 

Assistant Professor

Jeffrey Kallberg received his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Minnesota and completed his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at the University of South Dakota. He was initially appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and joined the School of Health Professions in August of 2023.  Dr Kallberg teaches Clinical Foundations I (PHYT 7001) and II (PHYT 7011) as well as Management of the Complex Patient (PHYT 8112).  He is registered in musculoskeletal sonography (RMSK) and has over 30 years of clinical experience across multiple rehabilitation settings.

Anjali Sivaramakrishnan, PhD, PT

Assistant Professor

Anjali Sivaramakrishnan is an assistant professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the School of Health Professions at UT Health San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Sivaramakrishnan’s background includes a Bachelor’s degree in physiotherapy from Sancheti Institute College of Physiotherapy and a Master’s degree in physiotherapy in neurosciences from Manipal University. She completed her PhD in rehabilitation sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has over 10 years of experience in the rehabilitation of individuals with disorders such as stroke, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s Disease, and other disorders.

Sandeep K Subramanian, PT, Ph.D., M.Sc, B.P.Th

Associate Professor 

Dr. Sandeep Subramanian is an Assistant Professor in the Physical Therapy Department at The School of Health Professions, UT Health San Antonio. His research focuses primarily on the reasons behind sub-optimal upper extremity recovery after stroke and TBI and the use of interventions to optimize the same. His research interests include motor control and motor learning, outcome measurement, and the use of virtual reality and non-invasive brain stimulation. He has over 20 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and over 60 peer-reviewed abstracts resulting in podium and/or poster presentations. He serves as a member of the Editorial Boards of two journals and regularly reviews articles for journals in the field of neurorehabilitation and neurosciences.
