Katie Krause represents School of Dentistry as ADHA Champion at National Conference
Junior dental hygiene student, Katie Krause, recently represented the School of Dentistry and attended the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) National Conference as an ADHA Champion. This opportunity gave Katie a front-row seat to the future of dental hygiene.
Katie shared that, amid midterms and the stress of exams, the event provided a powerful reminder of why she chose dental hygiene. “It’s easy to think, ‘I’m not good enough’ or ‘I’ll never make it as a hygienist,’ but this conference allowed me to see what I am working for and why I want to be in this field,” she shared.
Held in October in Long Beach, California, the conference offered three days of discovery, education and networking in a coastal setting. Katie connected with students and professionals from across the country, attended multiple continuing education courses and learned about the importance of advocacy in dental hygiene. “I want to be way more vocal about my profession, and I’m excited to explore ways to get involved,” she noted.
One highlight was the exhibit hall, where Katie gathered resources and tools, and stated that she looks forward to sharing them with future patients. Beyond the sessions and exhibits, the experience left her feeling reenergized and proud to be part of a profession that is constantly growing and advocating for better care. She also expressed gratitude to her professors for their support in making this trip possible.
“This conference reminded me why I chose dental hygiene,” she shared.
Looking ahead, Katie hopes to encourage fellow students to attend the Texas Dental Hygienists’ Association (TDHA) meeting in February 2026 and explore ways for our program to participate in ADHA 2026, which will be held in Fort Worth, Texas.
The ADHA, now in its 102nd year, remains the largest national organization representing dental hygienists. It works to advance the profession through education, advocacy, and opportunities for growth. Members benefit from access to cutting-edge research, continuing education, scholarships and legislative representation.
Congratulations, Katie, on this incredible achievement!
