Anibal Diogenes, DDS, PhD, appointed associate dean for special projects

The UT San Antonio School of Dentistry is pleased to announce the recent appointment of Anibal Diogenes, DDS, PhD, as associate dean for special projects, effective March 1, 2026. Dr. Diogenes will continue in his current role as chair of the Department of Endodontics.

In this role, Dr. Diogenes will help lead key school and institutional strategic initiatives. Among these initiatives, He will work closely with Irma Sanchez, senior director of finance and administration for the Office of Patient Care, and Ahmed Sabbah, DDS, PhD, Advanced Education in General Dentistry program director, to oversee the Advanced Education in General Dentistry clinic. Together, they will focus on strengthening operational efficiency, enhancing collaboration across specialty clinics and maintaining excellence in both teaching and patient care.

Dr. Diogenes is widely recognized for his contributions to endodontics, research and academic leadership. His work has advanced the understanding of dental pain mechanisms and regenerative endodontics, and he has played a vital role in shaping educational programs within the school.

This newly created position reflects the School of Dentistry’s commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and continued growth in its academic and clinical missions. Dr. Diogenes’ leadership is expected to further elevate these efforts and support ongoing special projects and program development.
