Growing Mentors Workshop

Workshop Series Description

The Growing Mentors workshop is a graduate student mentoring program designed to strengthen research mentoring skills while embedded in graduate training. Adapted from the evidence-based CIMER curricula, Mentor Training for Biomedical Researchers and Mentoring Up for Postdoctoral Trainees, this intensive, interactive workshop equips graduate students with the tools needed to thrive in both mentoring and mentee roles.

Workshop Format

  • Length: 4.5 hours
  • Frequency: Once each semester
  • Format: Small-group, discussion-based, interactive exercises

Workshop Objectives

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

  • Learn strategies to “mentor up”—taking an active role in building a productive and mutually beneficial relationship with their PI.
  • Develop skills that will prepare them to be effective mentors themselves, contributing to the next generation of academic principal investigators.
