TEXAS
MEDICAL ASSOCIATION, UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT PROGRAM, EMERGENCY PHYSICIAN AFFILIATES

OUR PURPOSE

Every year there are thousands of children injured on bikes, some seriously with head injuries. Our purpose is to educate children and families on proper bike safety and proper use of safety equipment to prevent and decrease the extent of the injuries. Bikes must be properly sized for the children based on their size and height to reduce injury. Our focus is on the school districts around Southeast Baptist Hospital that are underserved to provide free pre-participation physicals to encourage physical activity among the young children.

TARGET POPULATION

Students living in East Central and Southside  Independent School Districts.

OBJECTIVES

  1. To promote preventive health practices as measured by students receiving physicals.
  2. To promote bicycle safety as measured by the participation in the bike rodeo.
