About the Project: Art for the Soul SA was created by four Physician Assistant Students from the University of Texas Health Science Center of San Antonio in partnership with the San Antonio’s Children’s Shelter. As you may know, The Children’s Shelter provides safe haven for children who have been abused, abandoned, or neglected. Art for the Soul SA wants to ensure children who have been abandoned, and neglected have healing opportunities through one of the best therapies available; art. Art Therapy: To see firsthand the art created by children at the shelter is to see the difficulties and pain some of them have endured. The art therapy program at the Children’s Shelter provides a non-verbal, non-threatening method for children to communicate their deepest emotions in a concrete way. This uncovers many wounds and emotions, providing a pat to healing unlike any other method of therapy. |
