A Message from the President

William L. Henrich, MD, MACPOur Health Science Center continues to experience transformative growth, and philanthropy is playing an essential role in making our progress possible. Generous and steadfast support from donors – such as The Voelcker Fund, Welch Foundation, San Antonio Livestock Exhibition and others – featured in this issue of the Vanguard continues to advance our university on a path toward greatness. So many of you have invested in our mission to provide the best in education, research, health care and service for
San Antonio, South Texas and the world.

With The Campaign for the Future of Health at more than 94 percent of its $300 million goal, the Health Science Center stands on the threshold of a new era of biomedical research and clinical care. The long-anticipated opening of the Medical Arts and Research Center (the premier medical practice for UT Medicine San Antonio, the largest multi-specialty practice group in South Texas), scheduled for later this year, and the expected 2011 completion of the South Texas Research Facility will establish a translational research environment that will nurture Nobel-laureate discovery in our community.

Your support positions the Health Science Center to compete for the best and brightest physicians and scientists, and to achieve our aim of joining the ranks of the preeminent academic health science centers nationwide. Together, with the leadership of our Health Science Center community, we are indeed making lives better.

Warmest regards,

William L. Henrich, M.D., MACP
President
Professor of Medicine
