Assistant Professor
Surgery

A relatively new addition to the Health Science Center, Dr. Paula Shireman has been able to achieve extraordinary early-career scholarship in her research endeavors in a short period of time.

Dr. Shireman joined the Health Science Center’s vascular surgery division in 1999. Already she has published her work in more than 40 abstracts, papers, journal articles, book chapters, presentations and posters.

Her research interests include the mechanisms of collateral artery formation and the role of immune/inflammatory cells on collateral artery formation. The results of this research could potentially eliminate the need for amputations and increase treatment options for patients in the future.
