Deadline to register for 'Methodologies in Molecular Biology' is May 15

The department of cellular and structural biology will hold a five-day workshop titled "Basic Methodologies in Molecular Biology" June 20-24 at the Health Science Center. The hands-on workshop will allow participants to perform modern methods in the preparation, cloning and analysis of DNAs in plasmid vectors, polymerase chain reaction, reverse-transcription PCR analysis of RNA, and Southern and Western blotting.

Hands-on wet labs will be augmented by discussions of background, theory and rationale of the methodologies as well as practical applications.

The cost is $595 and includes laboratory materials, a detailed methods manual and meals. The workshop is limited to 14 participants. The course is suitable for basic scientists, technicians, undergraduate and graduate student, and high school and college science teachers.
