National society recognizes Boyan for cell research

The Society for Biomaterials awarded Dr. Barbara Boyan, professor and vice chair for orthopaedic research, the Clemson Award for Contributions to the Literature. Dr. Boyan received the award at the society's 28th Annual Meeting and Exposition in Atlanta on April 25.

"I am very honored to have won this award," Dr. Boyan said. "It goes to all of the students and staff who have worked in our laboratory over the past 10 years and it recognizes the contributions of my colleagues at the Health Science Center and the Southwest Research Institute."

Dr. Boyan was honored for her studies of cell response to material surfaces including those used for implants and tissue engineering scaffolds, as well as natural surfaces.
