Technology training department offers computer-based training

For the past three years, the technology training office has offered computer-based training to all Health Science Center employees at no cost. UTHSC faculty, staff, and students who use a PC also may access computer-based training courses from their own home PCs. Courses are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Some training courses available include Basic IT Concepts, MS Outlook, Microsoft Windows, the current versions of Explorer and MS Office, and Microsoft Project 98, Java Programming, Visual Basic, Oracle and many more. Courses are for beginners who want basic knowledge of a program to help them get the job done, or for veterans who want a refresher course.

Courses benefit those who have difficulty traveling to in-person training or who, because of a disability, may slow their own or other classmates' learning. The courses also appeal to those who just prefer online training over in-person training.

Courses are for PC users yet Macintosh users can access these courses using a software product called Virtual PC. For a list of courses and to register, go to For more information, call 7-2072 or send an e-mail to
