UTHSC employee helps earthquake victims, seeks donations

A recent earthquake in Western India has devastated the country and orphaned thousands of children. These children have lost their parents, relatives, homes and hopes.

On her own time and money, Deena Parghi, research associate in endodonics, is spearheading relief efforts to help the children. She and her husband, Rick, journeyed to India Feb. 22 and will stay two months to help children in need of food, shelter, medicine and emotional support.

This year the couple created VRAJ, an organization dedicated to assisting neglected, abused and orphaned children in poor countries. Parghi said the earthquake in India created urgency for increased efforts.

Parghi said anyone interested in VRAJ may call (210) 946-5706 or send an e-mail to rparghi@hotmail.com.
