Broaden your knowledge of Sweden

Learn about the beautiful and interesting country of Sweden during the International Alliance's Cultural Exchange Program titled "Sweden ­ Our Homeland." The free event is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 21 in the Dental School cafeteria accordion room. Sweden natives Camilla Olsson and her daughter, Emmi Axelsson, are the featured speakers. Anyone is welcome. Refreshments will be served.

Research collaboration topic of Feb. 22 seminar

The Lunch n' Learn seminar, hosted by the Industry University Cooperative Research Center, will take place at noon Thursday, Feb. 22, in room 2.010 in the Medical School. Dr. Dan Helton of DFP Pharmaceuticals will discuss "Research Collaboration Opportunities in Dermatology, Wound Care and Infection Control." Boxed lunches will be provided. The seminar is free. Inventory packets to be distributed Feb. 28

Inventory packets for the Fiscal Year 2001 annual inventory will be distributed at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, in the general services conference room, 122E. Please pick up packets by 11:30 a.m. For details, call the property control office at 7-5977.

Toothpaste study seeks volunteers

The Dental School is looking for participants for an eight-week toothpaste study. Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 65, must have gingivitis or gums that bleed after brushing, and must have at least 16 natural teeth. Free toothpaste and dental cleanings will be provided.

Faculty mentors needed for summer program

The Hispanic Center of Excellence is seeking faculty to participate as research mentors in the UTHSC/Hispanic Center of Excellence Summer Research Program. The program is scheduled from May 14 to July 13.

The purpose of the program is to introduce incoming freshmen and rising sophomore medical students to research projects related to Hispanic health and disease prevention. Faculty mentors spend seven weeks with participating students helping them with their summer research projects. The students present their projects at the end of the program.

Donate sick leave to co-workers in need

Faculty and staff are invited to donate sick leave to the UTHSC Sick Leave Pool for Fiscal Year 2000-2001. The purpose of the pool is to provide additional sick leave to qualified employees who use all of their own sick and vacation leave due to a catastrophic illness or injury. Any amount of donated sick leave is welcome. To donate your sick leave, pick up a Sick Leave Pool Voluntary Contribution Form from the human resources office in the administration building, room 114, or download a form at www.uthscsa.edu/hr/forms.html.

Volunteers needed for Fiesta de Tejas

If you are interested in volunteering at the Health Science Center's Fiesta de Tejas on Friday, April 20, please call Sandy Westerman, volunteer coordinator for the event, at 7-4206 or send e-mail to westerman@uthscsa.edu.

Volunteers who help in a booth for 90 minutes receive free admission to the event.

This year's festival is scheduled from 5 p.m. to midnight April 20 on the main campus.
