Department of family nursing care appoints new chair
With more than 18 years of critical care experience, Dr. Colleen S. Keller has been appointed chair of the department of family nursing care. She accepted the appointment in April 2001, after serving as interim chair for one year.
Dr. Keller came to the Health Science Center in 1994 to work with the new family nurse practitioner program. As chair she hopes to foster a diverse group of both faculty and students, while encouraging professors to continue working outside the classroom.
"I think I can contribute to the department by exploring ways to provide adequate and appropriate resources for faculty to continue their teaching, practice excellence and to pursue their research trajectories," Dr. Keller said. "Our goals focus on the four missions of the university and include examination of practice opportunities, the reflection of faculty leadership and expanding extramurally funded research."
Dr. Keller received her B.S.N. from Arizona State University, her M.S.N. from Ohio State University and her Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico. She also has an M.F.A. in printmaking.
Dr. Keller has held academic appointments at Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University and the University of New Mexico. She received her first academic appointment in 1984. Prior to that, she was a high school teacher.
