Afghanistan topic of Oct. 16 presentation
Afghanistan is a country with a rich and turbulent history that dates back 2,500 years. The Health Science Center community is invited to learn more about the country where war is being waged this year. Dr. Richard Luduena, professor in the department of biochemistry, will present his slide presentation, "An Informal History of Afghanistan," at noon Tuesday, Oct. 16, in the John P. Howe III, M.D., Conference Room on the fifth floor of the Briscoe Library.
Armies of many peoples including Persians, Greeks, Arabs, Mongols, Britons and Russians have invaded Afghanistan. Some have succeeded while others failed dramatically. Afghanistan often has been divided against itself as it is today. Some of these periods have coincided with external wars. Dr. Luduena's discussion will cover the history of Afghanistan with emphasis on recent times and on aspects relevant to the present situation.
Attendees are invited to bring their lunches. The Friends of the P.I. Nixon Medical Historical Library are sponsors of the event. For more information, contact Patricia Brown or Pennie Borchers at ext. 7-2400.
