Giving Jamboree set for Oct. 12

The UTHSC is about to embark on this year's State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC), and that means gift giving gets fun.

Each year, the SECC raises money for community organizations. This year's campaign is Oct. 1-19, with an SECC Jamboree set for Oct 12.

The jamboree kicks off at 11 a.m. in the university courtyard and includes food booths from 15 UTHSC departments as well as a variety of activities designed to get faculty, staff and students in the gift-giving spirit. First on the agenda: a basketball free-throwing contest. This year, teams of up to 25 members can challenge each other for the most baskets. The cost is $3 for two shots. Players can purchase an unlimited number of chances.

If you don't want to hit the hardwood, head over to the "funny photography" studio and get your picture taken with a friend. The SECC committee also plans to have a cakewalk. To donate baked goods, contact Kimmy Frischmuth at ext. 7-6928, or Amy Zingery at ext. 7-1721.

Look for more SECC activities in upcoming issues of The News.
