Cuba is topic of Oct. 3 lecture
Discover the legendary beauty of Cuba during "Cuba Revisited," a lecture and slide presentation sponsored by the Friends of the P.I. Nixon Medical Historical Library. The lecture will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 3, in the John P. Howe III, M.D., Conference Room on the fifth floor of the Briscoe Library.
Dr. Emilio F. Romero, professor and deputy chairman in the department of psychiatry and associate chief of staff for mental health, South Texas Veterans Health Care System, will be the guest speaker.
In 1998, after 38 years of absence, Dr. Romero returned to his native island of Cuba. During his lecture, Dr. Romero will discuss Cuba, also known as the "Pearl of the Antilles," and the changes that have transpired throughout the country in the last decades.
Dr. Romero said that despite 40 years of daily struggle under a totalitarian regime, the common people have nonetheless managed to retain their special gentleness, resourcefulness, candor and musicality — the essence of the Cuban soul.
Desserts and beverages will be provided. For more information, contact Pat Brown or Pennie Borchers at ext. 7-2400.
