Psychiatry awarded visiting professorship

Janssen Pharmaceutica Inc. awarded the Health Science Center a Janssen Distinguished Professorship award. The $7,000 grant will enable the department of psychiatry to collaborate with the Massachusetts Mental Health Center (MMHC). The center is renowned for its central nervous system (CNS) research.

MMHC investigator Dr. Ming T. Tsuang will spend two days working with Dr. Charles L. Bowden, chair of the department of psychiatry. Dr. Tsuang is a leader in the field of CNS research.

"We're excited to begin work with Dr. Tsuang for this program," Dr. Bowden said. "Dr. Tsuang has already made so many valuable contributions to psychiatric research and he has an enormous amount to communicate to our faculty."

The Health Science Center was one of five institutions selected from 17 applicants to receive the Distinguished Visiting Professorship Award. The visiting professorship is part of the Janssen Pharmaceutica Psychiatry Distinguished Awards program aimed at enhancing psychiatry education and advancing the training mission of basic and clinical psychiatry research.
