UTHSC to break ground for new CCRC
The Health Science Center is about to break ground on the new Children's Cancer Research Center (CCRC). The $50 million facility will house some of the nation's leading cancer investigators. The groundbreaking ceremony is set for 10 a.m. Aug. 2 at the construction site. Local and state officials as well as UTHSC leaders will attend the ceremony. The Health Science Center community is invited to attend.
The CCRC was created in January 2000. The center is funded by a $200 million endowment. It is the largest single cancer endowment in the country.
The 100,000-square-foot facility will be located at 8403 Floyd Curl Drive, between the Allied Health/Research Building and the Cancer Therapy & Research Center. Contractors, led by Garza Bomberger & Associates of San Antonio, expect the building to be complete by January 2004.
