KLRN health series features faculty

Tune in to public station KLRN-TV on weekends this month for the "It's Your Health" series featuring many faculty members of the Health Science Center.

The segment on "Healthy Children" airs at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 14, and is repeated at 12:30 a.m. Monday, July 16. Dr. Francisco G. Cigarroa, president, gives the introduction. Drs. Chris Johnson, Robert Nolan, Rebecca Huston and Jannine Cody, pediatrics, and Steven Pliszka, psychiatry, are interviewed.

The "Healthy Smiles" segment airs at the same times July 21 and 23. Drs. Huw Thomas, Kevin Donly and Adriana Segura Donly, pediatric dentistry, and Dr. John Brown, community dentistry, are featured. Dr. Cigarroa again gives the introduction.

A show on "Healthy Glands" airs at the same times July 28 and 30. This look at diabetes features Drs. Ralph DeFronzo and Lawrence Mandarino, medicine/diabetes.

The series began July 7 and 9 with a focus on "Healthy Babies." Drs. Alice Gong and Robert Nolan, pediatrics, were among those interviewed.

Pet clinic services to close briefly

Pet clinic services in the laboratory animal resources department will close from July 16 through 27 and from Aug. 5 through 10.

Conference to focus on Parkinson's disease

The 22nd Annual Conference on Aging will take place from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, July 20, at the Adam's Mark Hotel, 111 E. Pecan St. Experts from around the nation will discuss "Parkinson's disease: The Present and the Future." The goal of the conference is to provide primary care health professionals with the latest information, techniques and clinical skills necessary for quality geriatric patient care.

Certificates of continuing education units will be awarded to those who attend the entire conference.

Registration is $125 for non-VA/UTHSC employees, $100 for VA/UTHSC employees and $50 for students. The fee includes continental breakfast, lunch and a bound set of conference materials.

BCMS membership directory to be compiled

Bexar County Medical Society member physicians at University Hospital are invited to have their picture taken for inclusion in the society's pictorial membership directory. The directory is a valuable resource for the area medical community.

Photos will be taken from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 23 and 24 in the sublevel classroom at University Hospital (take A elevators to the sublevel).

There is no charge for the sitting, which will take 10 to 15 minutes. Additional portraits can be ordered for personal or professional needs.
