UTHSC faculty participate in prayer workshop

Dr. Cervando Martinez, professor in the department of psychiatry and associate dean for South Texas Programs and continuing medical education, and Dr. G. Chase Robinson, assistant professor in the department of anesthesiology, are on the planning committee for "On the Spiritual Journey with Father Thomas Keating," a three-day workshop featuring renowned teacher and author Father Thomas Keating.

Father Keating, a Trappist monk from St. Benedict's monastery in Snowmass, Colo., will discuss "Centering Prayer" July 13, 14 and 15 at the Bill Greehey Arena on the St. Mary's University campus. His presentations will highlight silent prayer themes in Christian, Jewish and other faith traditions. The public is invited to attend. Health care professionals will be particularly interested in the July 15 session which will focus on "The Divine Therapy: Prayer, Health and Healing." Bishop Thomas J. Flanagan, of the Roman Catholic Diocese, and Rabbi Samuel Stahl, of Temple Bethel, will be guest presenters at this session.

The event is sponsored by the Ecumenical Center for Religion and Health and faith group representatives. For more information or to register, call (210) 615-8291 or log on to www.ecrh.org.
