San Antonio Area Foundation donates $379,257 for projects

The San Antonio Area Foundation (SAAF) has awarded 20 new grants totaling $379,257 to Health Science Center researchers. In ceremonies May 22 at The University of Texas Institute of Texan Cultures, researchers received funds for projects ranging from the study of glaucoma, tuberculosis vaccines and newborns' lung disorders to attracting students to academic dental careers and developing master of science degree programs for teachers.

The SAAF was created in 1964 as a public, non-profit philanthropic organization. The foundation manages assets of more than $100 million and has contributed more than $2 million to Health Science Center projects.
