Question to the President

Itís a new millennium and time for the 2000 State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) at the Health Science Center. This yearís SECC Leadership Breakfast, on Sept. 13, 7:30-8:30 a.m., will kick off the campaign thatís scheduled to run from Oct. 9 to Nov. 1. The keynote speaker will be Larry Walker, the San Antonio Express-News CEO.

Last year, the Health Science Center wrapped up another successful charitable campaign after having raised a record $214,000. That was up 3 percent from 1998ís total, and 36 percent of Health Science Center faculty and staff individually contributed to the campaign.

"Too often we are reminded of the tragedies that affect families in our home of San Antonio. SECC is a meaningful way that we can all help out and give something small back to our community," said Jerome York, co-chair of the 2000 SECC. "SECC can and does make a big difference."

Last yearís SECC Coordinating Councilís campaign rode the tide of success of the 1999 NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs, whose chairman Peter Holt delivered the keynote address at the Leadership Breakfast.

The SECC Advisory Council has met and has formed subcommittees to plan special events throughout the Health Science Center.
